Children's Ministry Center Touching the lives of children with God's love. K4 Class:
Curious, talkative, active, funny, and eager to learn are among the many characteristics of a four year old child. The four year old classes seek to capitalize on these characteristics in the classroom. Our objectives are to stimulate the intellectual, spiritual, and social development of the children, while building their self-esteem. Many techniques, such as games, puzzles, listening to stories, singing, writing letters, and interacting with teachers and peers are used to capture the various learning styles in the classroom. Through the use of the Wee Learn & Saxon Curriculums and various supplements, the children are taught letters, numbers, prepositions, concepts, biblical truths, and much more. A typical day in our class begins with calendar time. During this time the children work on math skills, such as numbers and patterns. Also the days of the week and the months of the year are emphasized. We then say the pledge to the American and Christian flags. This is followed by a bible story or a mini - lesson on how God wants us to live. We emphasize that God loves them and that he made all people. Afterward, the children discuss how the story or lesson influences their lives and the lives around them.
Next is center time. The children can choose from science, writing, puzzles and games, blocks, homeliving, art and books and listening. After center time, the children have a snack and a story, then, weather permitting, go outside for playtime. Next on the schedule is lunch. Once a week, we go to chapel and listen to a mini-sermon by one of the pastors. The children enjoy this time with the pastor, especially when they can share their experiences with him.
The day ends with group experiences and music and movement. Also, we review the letter of the week and work on theme topics. We sometimes use this time to explore concepts such as opposites and prepositions.
Overall, we hope to provide a warm, loving, and stimulating environment which will prepare the children for school. We hope to make the children's first year of school a positive experience that will encourage a lifelong learning and a love for God.
